DIY Install in 10–15 Minutes: Tools, Tips, and Fit Checks

Installing the Oil Jock Kit is a breeze! With just a few common tools and a little know-how, you can protect your vehicle and driveway from oil leaks in no time. Here’s how to get it done quickly and efficiently.

What You’ll Need

  • Basic tools: electric drill or driver, ratchet and socket, and a clean rag.
  • You may need wheel ramps, a lift, or a jack and jack stands. for safety. It depends on how much ground clearance you need, not necessary for most trucks or larger SUVs.
  • A friend to help (optional but makes installation quicker and easier).

Safety First

  1. Car Ramps - position and drive front wheels on car ramps and use parking brake once positioned.
  2. Jack - Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and use chocks.  Only lift the vehicle if your clearance demands it; if you do, use jack stands.
  3. Vehicle lift - if you have a lift available lift so you can comfortably stand under the vehicle to install the Oil Jock.

Install at a Glance (Typical)

  1. Position: Identify a stable undercar mounting area with clearance from hot/moving parts, and position as close to centered under the oil leak as possible.
  2. Dry-fit: Hold the Oil Jock in position and confirm pad alignment under the drip zone.
  3. Fasten: Secure per included hardware instructions; check that nothing interferes with steering/suspension/exhaust.
  4. Final check: Ensure the hydrophobic pad is seated and unobstructed.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Prepare Your Vehicle: Ensure the car is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  2. Locate the Mounting Area: Check your vehicle’s undercarriage and determine where the leak is leaking from to determine where to install the Oil Jock.  Test fit it in the location to determine where to attach the front mount.
  3. Attach the Kit: Use the provided hardware to secure the Oil Jock Kit in place. Ensure it’s snug but not overly tight.
  4. Final Inspection: Double-check all connections and ensure the kit is securely mounted.

Fit Tips for Different Vehicles

  • Low cars: Use low-profile ramps or a shallow approach angle for access.
  • Tucks/SUVs: Often plenty of clearance—just confirm off-road components won’t contact.
  • Modified/lifted: Re-check articulation clearance if you do full droop/flex off-road.
    Common Mistakes to Avoid
  • Mounting too close to exhaust manifolds or catalytic converters
  • Leaving fasteners just “hand tight”
  • Forgetting a final light/clearance check

Ongoing Care

  • Visual check monthly or after rough-road trips
  • Replace the pad with each oil change (or sooner if saturated)

The Bottom Line

In just 10–15 minutes, you can install the Oil Jock Kit and enjoy peace of mind knowing your vehicle is protected from leaking on your driveway, your street or anywhere you happen to take it.
